Generative Music to Championship Anthem: The Making of "Pleioffeis" with Songen

May 5, 2025

The Initial Spark and a Walk:

Some time ago, I suggested to the music artist Timi Lexikon, who is from Savo, that we should create a song for Kalpa, which we had discussed before. I called him about this on a walk, and he was immediately onboard, mentioning he already had some lyrics written.

Finding the Vibe with Songen:

On the same walk, I started generating musical ideas using the Songen app. I knew what kind of music genre would work well with Timi, so I generated loop ideas on the app, arranged them as 16-bar loops, and sent it straight to the chat we were having. That way, we could instantly establish the vibe the track should have as we searched for a certain feeling, keeping the music style flexible.

From Loops to a Song:

I sent about 10 loop ideas and mentioned this certain loop that had the feeling we were searching for, and Timi said that it was great. I said that I'd produce the loop in my own style as a full song and then send it to Timi so he could record the vocals for it. Timi said he'd record his lyrics and finalise them before the Kalpa hockey game that evening.

Rapid Production and Vocal Delivery:

I went home, fully produced the song from the MIDI files in a couple of hours to capture the atmosphere we were going for. I sent it to Timi, he recorded his vocals, and before 6 pm that day, I had a link to nearly completed vocals in the chat. The process took about 4 hours from ideation to a completed track.

Refining and Mastering:

During that week, I arranged the track and mixed the vocals, and Timi re-recorded some parts. About a week after the walk, the song was ready for mastering. We sent the track to a mastering engineer in Los Angeles and got the master back a few days later and it was excellent. I sent the track for release immediately after.

"Pleioffeis" Takes Off:

Following the release of "Pleioffeis," the song's impact was immediate and widespread. The Kalpa fan club quickly adopted the track, playing it on their tour buses on the way to games, while the arena amplified its energy before matches. Kalpa actively shared the song across their social media, reaching tens of thousands of followers and leading to significant playlist additions. As Kalpa played amazing hockey throughout the playoffs, "Pleioffeis" became a powerful anthem fueling support and marking a meaningful part of the team's SM-Liiga championship journey.

The Power of Music and the Future of Creation:

This is a great example of the power of music bringing together people to support a mutual cause. It also represents the future of music creation, where music makers can find the perfect vibe for their collaborative song using generative music as ideas, so the song they work on already has the agreed-upon style they seek. This leaves more energy for the process of completing the song, as it already represents something the collaborators stand for. Songen is a great tool for this to maximize the creator’s potential by saving time in the music creation process and transforming music in a new way.

Congratulations to the Champions:

Congratulations to Kalpa on their success in winning the SM-Liiga championship this year! Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, fans attending KalPa's championship party on Tuesday will have the chance to experience "Pleioffeis" live, as Timi Lexikon is set to perform the team's anthem on stage.
